We know about Hedge Funds Care is an organization devoted to helping children.  Below is a letter the organization sent out to the hedge fund community regarding this weekend.

Dear Friend,

This coming weekend is July 4th, and in the United States that really is the beginning of summer. And summer is a time when even those of us who have to work, try to fit in as much “play” as possible.  Some of us will be playing golf, or other sports, or playing with our children, nieces and nephews, or playing in the water, whatever we can fit in.  In Brooklyn, where I live, the fire hydrants on the street will be open and the kids on the block will be playing in the spray!

Play is extremely important. For those of us who work hard year round some play is vital to help us renew and reenergize. And the other day I was reminded that child development experts write whole books on the importance of play for children. In fact, one noted child psychologist calls play the “work” of children.  It is essential for their development that they have time to play. Children need to have a space of time in their lives where they are safe and can use their imaginations, stretch their limbs, take chances, play out fantastic scenarios.

And “safe” is the operative word. Children cannot truly play unless they feel safe. If they have to worry about being hit, or upsetting their parents and “causing” them to fight, or of being punished for being silly in the moment, then they cannot play. And not having healthy play curbs their development.

We at Hedge Funds Care help children be able to play.  We fund programs that create the safety for children to exercise their limbs, their imaginations, and their spirit.
